KIDS NEED ART: NEWS
"Some of my most ready memories from my school years are those of art class: the smells, the textures, the variety of colors, seeing a project advance every day, and the sense of accomplishment when finished. I have no doubt the skills of trying new things, being patient, finding my creativity and enjoying the fruits of my efforts were invaluable to me as I experimented with music and challenging academic projects."

Kids Need Art Mini-Grant Winners Honored
Applications for 2009 Mini-Grants Now Being Accepted

LAFAYETTE, Colo.—Recipients of Spring and Fall 2008 Kids Need Art mini-grants were recently honored at a small reception hosted by The Creative Alliance. Kids Need Art is a mini-grant program that benefits elementary and middle school art instruction in the Boulder Valley School District.

Recipients of the 14 Kids Need Art mini-grants awarded for the 2008 academic year gathered to share examples of the art projects supported by the program. Among the projects displayed were clay self-portraits (Ginger Thom, art instructor, Lafayette Elementary School) and a water bottle tapestry/save our planet (Patty Jones, art instructor, Angevine Middle School).

Kids Need Art was founded by The Creative Alliance, a public relations and marketing firm based in Lafayette, which funds 100 percent of the grant amounts.

“What a delight to see the results of these mini-grants, and to talk with the teachers who conceived of and brought these projects to life,” said David Heitman, president of The Creative Alliance. “It’s satisfying to offer these mini-grants to support art education on a local level.”

Kids Need Art applications for the Spring 2009 semester are being accepted at kidsneedart.net through January 16, 2009. Winners of those mini-grants will be announced in late January.
